“ Summary approximately 4 hour wait to order after arriving at 1045am. Wait time is dependent on how many folks ahead of you place large orders. It took 10 minutes from ordering to payment for our 8 pounds of meat plus 6 quarts of sidesthey prepare your trayboxes as you order. Smoked meats are some of the best in North Carolina, go with fatty brisket instead of lean. White brisket is pork belly, which is always a treat. You must try their sausages this was my surprise favorite. In depth review Weve seen the long lines at Jon Gs when driving from Raleigh to Charlotte, so it popped up on our radar to try. It was a 2 hour drive and we arrived a little before 11am. The line didnt look terribly long, maybe 100 people already in line, but boy were we mistaken! We didnt get to the counter to order until 240pm!! You may wonder, what in the world takes so long?! From the time stamps on my photos, it took roughly 10 minutes to put together our almost 400 order 8 pounds of smoked meat and 6 quarts of sides. Basically, folks ordering a large amount of food takes some time to cut, package, and ring up. Jon Gs staff were very friendly and patient with the excitement that came after waiting nearly 4 hours. They do well in going out into the line to estimate of how much meat people intend to order, so you can be aware if something you want will be sold out by the time you make it through. The one recommendation that I have after this experience is, if youre not set on getting a certain meat, go around 3pmlater afternoon. Some things might be sold out, but the line was much shorter when we left. We definitely wouldnt wait for almost 4 hours again. Now onto the food... The fatty brisket is the way to go. The lean was, as expected, a bit drier, but still flavorful. The first bite I had was from the brisket sandwich, and it was a lean piece of meat, so wasnt very juicy without sauce. The white brisket, aka pork belly, had a delectable seasoned crust. The sausage was in my opinion, one of the stars. The queso texacano was snappy, juicy, seasoned and spiced well, and all around one of my best bites. They provided plentiful bread, pickles, and pickled onions. The sides were most wanted to try were sold out by the time we got to order. The Mexican corn elote and brisket fried rice were surprisingly good. The slaw, Mac and cheese tasted fairly standard. I liked that the baked beans were not heavy in molasses flavor. Is it the best bbq Ive had? No, but it is definitely in the top 3 that Ive tried in North Carolina. If youre in the area on Saturday, definitely stop by to try them bring an umbrella for standing out in the sun for several hours. They said it averages 3 hours of waiting, and the line started forming at 7am ”

“ After three years of living in Charlotte and hearing the constant praise about Jon Gs BBQ out in Peachland, I finally made the pilgrimage this past Saturday. With Passover falling on the same day, I figured what better way to honor the holiday than with my own BBQ Seder plate brisket, burnt ends, and pickled onions absolutely included. I woke up at 630 AM and made it there by 715, landing a spot among the first 20 in line. By 930 AM, I was warming up with a breakfast taco and kolache because lining up for meat should always include a warmup round. Lunch service kicked off at 1030 AM, and since the line wraps around the building and they tend to sell out fast, I did the only logical thing, ordered basically everything. Heres what made it onto my tray Brisket, pulled pork, smoked turkey, spare ribs, and white brisket aka sliced pork belly with PeachOs Cheerwine hotlink and Queso Texicano hotlink Bacon burnt ends that should honestly be illegal Mac cheese, jalapeno cheese grits, burger tater tot casserole, brisket fried rice, brown sugar baked beans, pickles, pickled red onion, yeast rolls And to finish it off, a big ol serving of banana pudding for dessert Every single item hit the mark. No notes. No complaints. This is the kind of Texasstyle BBQ that outshines anything else youll find within an hour of Charlotte. Its not an everyweekend kind of stop, but its absolutely worth the drive a few times a year, especially during the cooler spring or fall months when standing in line isnt a survival sport. Pro tips Get there early like... sunrise early. Expect a line. Bring a folding chair, maybe a cooler and some Tupperware to bring leftovers home or freeze some for a rainy day. They pass out free beer while you wait, but youre welcome to BYOB. ”
“ Drove 2 hours and 45 minutes to get there. Got in line at 845 AM and finally got seated with food at 1215 PM. Was it worth the wait? Absolutely! Just the experience of meeting new people and having some conversations with them while patiently waiting our turn was just part of the Jon Gs experience. Food was out of this world delicious, staff was very friendly and accommodating, and you could taste the hard work that was put into that food. So glad that my son and I made the trip. ”

Be prepared to wait in line, some of our party got there at 7am, they open at 11am. My favorite was the burnt ends and the brisket, but all the meats were great. The sides were awesome as well. “ Jon Gs is a very unique experience, but well worth it. We showed up around 9am and there was already a long line formed. Everyone is friendly and theres plenty of open space for the kids to hang out. Be prepared! Bring a chair, umbrella, sunscreen and anything else you need to be comfortable outside for several hours. But make no mistake its worth the wait!! We spent about 160 for two people to try a lot of different items, but you can visit and choose to pay much less. We definitely recommend! ”
“ We made a visit on a cool Saturday morning. When we arrived there was approximately 25 people ahead of us and hot chocolate was being served and a little fire was going to help. Keep us warm. One of the young ladies that works there came around and gave us an opportunity to put a preorder in order to give the establishment an idea of what meats were going to be available so they could plan ahead. Around 900 930 we were told that we could go inside and order some breakfast if we like. My wife did so and she had an absolutely amazing breakfast taco and she purchased something called a Kolache which was a Polish or a Czech filled pastry. That was awesome. Is 1030 rolled around a cooler full of beer came out and those that were lucky enough were able to snag a can. At 1100 the doors opened up for service and we all waited our turn to place our order. Seen that this was our first time. We ordered a little bit of every meat available. We also tried the majority of the sides. As far as the meats go, first and foremost, the brisket is absolutely amazing. Follow very closely by the beef ribs and the spare ribs. The smoked turkey was absolutely amazing. The pulled pork was delicious but honestly pulled pork is just that pulled pork. We also tried a couple of their housemade sausages, oh brother, awesome! As for the sides, the baked beans were delicious. The street corn was pretty good too. My wife wasnt too crazy about the tater tot casserole or the grits? But I suppose thats just our personal tastes. Were not all that big on sides anyways. All in all the time spent in line was enjoyable as the weather was cool. The people were awesome. We had great conversations with everybody around us and oddly enough there was only one child around 11 or 12 years old and he was super well behaved and there was no pets. You can bring your pet but they do ask that you keep good control over them and clean up after their mess, I suppose that goes for the kids too Would I go back you bet your boots I would! If you go when its cool, dress warm, bring something hot to drink and be prepared to tough it out. If you go when its hot make darn sure you bring something to drink to stay hydrated and a hat. I could see where standing in line in the Carolina, Sun and humidity would be misery but the food is 100 worth it! ”
